The Yamaha BT1100, also known as the Bulldog, is a cross between a cruiser and retro roadster. It comes with an air-cooled V-Twin engine borrowed from the old 1100 Virago. The engine is reliable and it has a lot of punch in the low revs. The seating position is very comfortable. The handling however could be much better and the bike feels a little too heavy at times.

The overall build quality is decent, but there are some parts on the bike that feel pretty cheap such as the mirrors.

The Yamaha FZS600 Fazer is one of the top selling motorcycles in its category. It is a great all rounder that is capable of both commuting and long-distance touring, yet it’s sporty enough for racing on a track.

It comes with a powerful inline-four engine that you will have to restrict by 50% to make the bike A2 compliant. The riding experience is silky smooth and there is enough power for all types of riding styles.

Thanks to its reliability and long service intervals, the Yamaha FZS600 Fazer is an ideal bike for beginners and occasional riders. It is a well made machine that can reach very high mileage with regular servicing. On top of that, the motorcycle can be found for cheap and there are lots of them for sale.

So, if you are looking for an affordable commuter/sports-tourer that is suitable for track days, the Yamaha Fazer 600 might be the perfect bike for you.

The Yamaha FZ6 Fazer is one of the most versatile motorcycles you can ride on your A2 licence. It is an update to the older FZS600 model and the company’s response to some of the most popular all rounders such as the Honda CBF600 and Suzuki GSF650 Bandit.

The bike comes with a bullet-proof 600cc engine that has been previously used in the R6. It is extremely reliable and has plenty of power for reaching maximum speeds, yet it performs well around town and riding down twisty roads.

In terms of equipment, the Yamaha FZ6 Fazer surely doesn’t disappoint. It comes with a durable chassis, comfortable seat and solid suspension that performs really well on all types of roads. On top of that, you will also get a digital speedometer with analog rev counter and a fuel gauge.

Thanks to its practicality and reliability, the Yamaha FZ6 Fazer is without a doubt one of the best A2 bikes it its category.

Keep in mind that there are multiple different versions of the bike available and the only one suitable for A2 licence is the 2007-2008 model with 78 bhp.

The below specifications are for the regular 98 bhp non-A2-compliant Yamaha FZ6 Fazer model, rather than the 78 bhp A2-compliant one.

The new Yamaha MT-03 gets a stunningly stylish and more aggressive look while keeping its ease of ride that has made it so attractive to new riders and commuters.

The MT-03 is an A2 friendly bike, and in Yamaha’s eyes, it falls into their “Hyper Naked” segment of motorcycles.

Aside from the crazy new look that features predator-like front LED lights, the Yamaha MT-03 remains a reliable small capacity motorcycle. Powered by a 2-cylinder, 321cc engine, the Yamaha MT-03 produces 30.9 kW of power, is enough to fit it comfortably into A2 bike licence category.

Although a smaller engine means A2 licence holders can ride it, the sophisticated and refined engine at the heart of the MT-03 offers excellent fuel economy of 74mpg. In other words, the MT-03’s 14-litre tank will take you as far as an astonishing 228 miles.

Moreover, the smaller capacity Yamaha will be favoured by your bank account, as insurance premiums are significantly cheaper than Yamaha’s other bikes, such as the MT-07.

All this talk of the MT-03’s small capacity engine that’s great for commuting and around town, but the reality is that the MT-03 is a beast to ride.

The MT in the bike model name stands for “Master of Torque”, and on that point, the Yamaha MT-03 delivers. There’s plenty of torque there, and the bike is lightweight enough that it’s a thrill to ride and throw around bends – whether that’s on the way to work or on a weekend ride.

Overall, the MT-03 is a fantastic A2 motorbike, and we cannot recommend it enough. If you like the aggressive Yamaha looks, this is the bike to go for!

The Yamaha MT-07 is a refined bike with a “strong, linear torque” engine.

It has been engineered to give you the best that a bike can offer, in Yamaha’s new naked look, which Yamaha says was inspired by the Dark Side of Japan.

The MT-07 has become hugely popular with riders throughout Europe, and it has become very attractive to A2 licence holders, as with a restrictor, it can be ridden on an A2 licence.

The A2 licence allows you to ride bikes that produce no more than 35 kW of power (roughly 47 bhp), or a more powerful bike if you restrict it (but by no more than 50%). For more information about the A2 licence requirements, go to our A2 licence page.

Fortunately, the Yamaha MT-07 produces 55 kW / 74 bhp of power, meaning that if you use a restrictor kit to cut the power by 36%, you will be able to ride the Yamaha MT-07 on your A2 motorcycle licence.

The MT-07’s 689cc engine produces plenty of power, which can propel the bike up to a top speed of 130 mph (209 km/h).

Where practicality is concerned, the Yamaha MT-07’s fuel efficiency of 65 mpg (imperial) will take you 207 miles on the MT-07’s 14 litre tank.

Overall, Yamaha MT-07 is refined, agile, lightweight and provides you with plenty of speed. Most importantly, this bike can be ridden on an A2 licence AND has a lower price tag than many other bikes in the same class.
