Yamaha R9 (2025 onwards)

The Yamaha R9 is the company’s brand-new sportsbike based on the MT-09 model. This is a proper super-sport motorcycle with all the bells and whistles you would expect on such a bike, like a powerful inline-three-cylinder engine, and advanced electronic rider aids.

You will get lots of modern features as standard, including a 5-inch colour TFT dash, LED lights, quickshifter, cruise control, and USB charging ports. On top of that, the bike also comes with fully-adjustable KYB suspension, and Brembo Stylema brakes. The build quality and finish are both excellent, and the attention to detail is out of this world.

With a price of just above £12,000, the Yamaha R9 offers incredible value for money, but you will have to buy the restricted version for your A2 licence.

Please note that the below specifications are for the regular non-A2-compliant Yamaha R9 model, rather than the 35kW / 70kW A2-compliant one.

A2 Licence Compliance

The Yamaha R9 is a 890cc A2-friendly bike. It has a power output of 87 kW (117 bhp), which exceeds the 35 kW (47 bhp) limit needed for an A2 licence. The bike has to be restricted by at least 59.7% to become A2 licence compliant. (source: Yamaha R9 specifications)

You will need a restrictor to ride the Yamaha R9 on an A2 motorbike licence. See the restrictor kits section to check out what restrictors are available for the Yamaha R9.
