Yamaha MT-09 (2024 onwards)

The 2024 Yamaha MT-09 might be one of the best sub-litre naked bikes on the market. The bike is super-cool and extremely fun to ride, yet affordable and reliable in the long run. It features the same aggressive design as the previous models, but it’s now much sharper and sportier than before. And, thanks to its improved electronics with advanced rider aids, it’s also much easier to handle.

The Yamaha MT-09 comes with an 890cc inline-three-cylinder engine producing around 117 bhp, which makes the bike non-A2-compliant as standard. However, there is an A2 legal version available that is factory restricted to meet the A2 licence requirements in the UK and EU.

Please note that the below specifications are for the regular non-A2-compliant Yamaha MT-09 model, rather than the 35kW / 70kW A2-compliant one.

A2 Licence Compliance

The Yamaha MT-09 is a 890cc A2-friendly bike. It has a power output of 87 kW (117 bhp), which exceeds the 35 kW (47 bhp) limit needed for an A2 licence. The bike has to be restricted by at least 59.7% to become A2 licence compliant. (source: Yamaha MT-09 specifications)

You will need a restrictor to ride the Yamaha MT-09 on an A2 motorbike licence. See the restrictor kits section to check out what restrictors are available for the Yamaha MT-09.
